VSI was created as the result of a long-term relationship between the two founders, Dan Brunet and Doug Finton. While serving as the head of training and development for an international company during the late 80s, Doug was one of Dan’s clients. After Doug left the organization to start his own company, they continued to work together collaborating on various projects.

Dan introduced Doug to Crucial Conversations®, a New York Times best selling book and seminar from VitalSmarts, LC.  Doug quickly recognized the congruence of this work with the values that he espoused throughout his career and became a passionate believer in the body of work developed by the founders of VitalSmarts. From that point on, it only made good sense to join forces, re-focus our mission, create a new organization, and dedicate ourselves to the work of bringing these extremely high impact offerings to a larger universe.

VitalSmarts, LC is a world leader in leadership training and organizational performance. The principals, Al Switzler, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan, and Kerry Patterson, have researched methods for bringing about systematic and lasting change. The founders are also co-authors of the best-selling business books, Crucial Conversations® and Crucial Confrontations™.

As Principal Associates of Vital Smarts, Vital Skills International, LC is among a small select group of organizations across the U.S. that are providers of the VitalSmarts award winning programs. Dan’s relationship with the founders dates back to the mid 90s.

As an executive consultant in the field of Leadership Development, with more than 25 years of his own management experience, including nearly a decade as president of companies experiencing rapid growth and change, Dan Brunet combines the practical acumen of a business leader with the in-depth expertise of a facilitator and master trainer in productivity and performance improvement systems.

He has provided consultation and training for major corporations in the automotive, banking, manufacturing, health care, education, government, and public utility fields. He has also worked with many non-profit organizations helping them work toward the fulfillment of their mission.

Before establishing his own consulting firm, Performance Priorities, Inc., in 1989, Dan served as a management consultant/process facilitator for Wilson Learning Corporation. In this capacity, he provided customized training and skill building programs helping corporate clients achieve measurable improvements in their employees' leadership skills, interpersonal business relationships, change management, labor/management relations, and negotiating skills. He is recognized in the business community for his ability to help others lead in an increasingly complex business environment.

In his capacity as Managing Director, Dan works with many clients, helping them with strategic planning, meeting productivity, team building, and overall leadership skills development. He has worked with both labor and management personnel and is a certified Crucial Conversations trainer. Dan and his business partner Doug Finton are Principal Associates of Vital Smarts, LC.

Dan's many years of experience in the business world help him bring to his clients the ability to connect ongoing adult learning to the everyday work environment.



Doug Finton has been working in the field of Leadership Development, Change Management and Team Effectiveness for 20 years. His clients include organizations of all kinds: for-profit and not-for-profit; from automotive, accounting, and air traffic controlling, to universities, healthcare systems and organizations dedicated to nonviolence. In their service, Doug has designed and delivered Leadership Development trainings, coached executives, worked with teams, and facilitated Management meetings and offsites on a broad variety of topics.

Formerly head of Management Training and the Strategic Learning functions of the German and U.S. operations of the Volkswagen Group, Doug founded Doug Finton & Associates, Inc. in 1996 to bring his skills in promoting positive change to a broader client base. He works internationally, consulting, training, and speaking in a variety of settings to fulfill his mission of supporting results-focused processes of renewal and self-generation for individuals, teams, and organizations.

As a systems thinker and founding member of the Midwest Society for Organizational Learning, Doug's practice has been particularly focused on promoting dialogue, and increasing clients' effectiveness at skillful dialogue. In the past few years, he has devoted himself to using VitalSmarts'™ Crucial Skills body of work as a lever to help client systems get unstuck and obtain the results they want.

Doug is a Principal Associate of VitalSmarts, a Master Certified Crucial Conversations® and Crucial Confontations™ Facilitator. He and his wife reside in Michigan.
